Who fits what?
If you have a unique, complex need and the budget for it, a web agency can build exactly what you describe, at a price to match. If most local businesses just need a good-looking, working website with booking and quote requests, fast and at a low price, that's exactly what Timvat is built for.
About these numbers: Agency prices are from two Swedish web agencies' own price guides: Elithan (updated 13 May 2026, SEK 8,000–19,000 excl. VAT for most small and medium-sized businesses) and Plasma Media (2 July 2026, from about SEK 20,000 and up). Checked 15 October 2026.
What a web agency costs
There are no independent price statistics for web agencies, but several agencies publish their own price guides. Elithan states that most small and medium-sized businesses end up at SEK 8,000–19,000 excluding VAT for a company website. Plasma Media states from about SEK 20,000 and up for a professional site for a smaller business. Larger projects cost more.
Running costs come on top of the one-off price. Elithan lists hosting from SEK 49–399 a month and updates from SEK 500 an hour with a developer. A domain, security updates and changes to text and images are other items to ask about.
Timvat has no setup cost and costs SEK 299 a month including VAT, or SEK 2,999 a year. Hosting, connecting your domain, SSL, updates and AI edits are included.
When an agency is the right choice
An agency is worth the money when you need something that doesn't exist ready-made: a custom design that has to follow a strong visual identity, integrations with other systems, a larger online shop or features unique to your business. You also get a contact person who takes responsibility for the whole.
For most local businesses the need is simpler: a clear site with services, prices, contact details and a way to book or ask for a quote. A website builder is enough for that, and you can change the site yourself without paying per change.
What to ask an agency
Ask for a written price for the build and for the running costs: hosting, domain, security updates and what a change costs. Ask who owns the domain and the content, whether you can edit the site yourself afterwards and what happens if you end the relationship. Compare several quotes on the same brief.
Frequently asked questions
Can I hire an agency later if I outgrow Timvat?
Absolutely — many businesses start simple and customize more once needs get complex. Timvat is a good, cheap way to get moving quickly in the meantime.
Is a more expensive website always better?
No — the price reflects how custom the work is, not automatically how well the site converts visitors into customers. A simple, fast, clear site often beats an expensive one that's slow to load.
